Harlem Globe Trotters Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, United States of America
Type : Arena
Capacity : 3910 seats
The feasibility study by Scéno Plus is proposing a permanent home for the Harlem Globe Trotters (HGT) with basketball and show facilities. Both functions (basketball and show presentation) would be unified by the Harlem Globe Trotters (HGT) as one event that would occupy the place nine months a year. HGT off-season would be filled with Variety Shows, Musicals Shows similar productions. The project also includes a basketball exhibition hall located in the auditorium lobby, sport boutiques adjacent to the lobby, basketball camp facilities for 200 youngsters and administration offices.
Outstanding features
As the various functions are largely overlapping, the building would consist of multi-task spaces surrounding a large auditorium, part of which will be flexible through the means of automated folding bleachers with molded plastic chairs.
The auditorium seating arrangement for the HGT (2,798 seats) is focused on the basketball court. At one end of the court, the stage area (7,398 sq. ft.) will permit the integration of show acts during the basketball presentation. For Variety and Musical Shows, a total of 1112 chairs are placed on the court area to raise the capacity to 3,910 patrons.
The proposed shape for the building is directed by the structure of such large column free space. Its rounded shapes, reinforced by ample curves even in the low parts of the building such as box office and sport boutiques, dynamise the building perception and enhance its sportive image.
