Type : Multidisciplinary Spaces, Theatres & Concert Halls
Capacity : 664 seats
Built on the site of one of Quebec’s early academic halls, the Théâtre Hector-Charland became a key player in the cultural life of the Lanaudière region right from the start. The space is much sought after for its wonderful sense of intimacy in terms of acoustics and sight lines.
Outstanding features
The design concept for this theatre provided for a potential increase in capacity to over 800 seats. The major challenge was to design a performance space that would work right now for medium-sized productions but could later be turned into a larger room at reasonable cost. With that constraint in mind, the design for this 664-seat theatre was completed without making any concessions.
The final result is a warm, intimate auditorium with technical infrastructures that would be the envy of much larger showrooms.
The theatre received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in its first year of operation.
